Buenos Aires, December 17 (NA) -- San Lorenzo will hold an extraordinary assembly this Monday afternoon, during which the date of the upcoming elections will be determined.
According to the Argentine News Agency (NA), the aforementioned assembly will take place on Monday, December 22, at 6:00 PM, at the Pedro Bidegain stadium, the "Nuevo Gasómetro". Additionally, the resignations that led to the leadership vacuum will be addressed, and a transitional board of directors will be appointed to manage the club until the elections are held.
With the club leaderless and facing a request for his prosecution for fraudulent administration, the days of businessman Marcelo Moretti as president of San Lorenzo are coming to an end. His tenure at the club, which began in December 2023, was turbulent from the start. The first controversy arose last July when he tried to pass a fake receipt during the purchase of forward Matías Reali. However, the incident that ultimately destabilized his presidency occurred this April.
In that month, a video surfaced showing the club president receiving a bribe of $25,000 in exchange for guaranteeing a starting spot for a youth football player, with the player's mother being the one who made the payment.
Cornered, Moretti tried to pass the situation off as a donation, took a leave of absence, and refused to resign from his post. Nevertheless, the fans' dissatisfaction with his management led most of his board to step down, culminating in the official leadership vacancy announced on the evening of Tuesday, December 16.
Thus, it was decided to hold an extraordinary assembly next Monday, December 22, at 6:00 PM, at the "Nuevo Gasómetro", where the relevant resignations that caused the leadership vacuum will be noted, a transitional board of directors consisting of 20 members will be formed to lead the club until the elections, and the date for those elections will also be chosen on Monday.
Meanwhile, Moretti is still under investigation for the alleged bribe, has a request for prosecution that would prevent him from leaving the country, and is involved in the case of the financial firm Sur Finanzas, a case being investigated by the Argentine Football Association (AFA), its president Claudio Tapia, and "Ciclón" for taking loans in exchange for promissory notes with a 36% annual interest rate on more than $1900 million.
